O.F.F.W.A.’s list of walks

on Google Maps

Have you ever looked at the locations we visit on our walks via collectively shared information on the Google Maps app?

  • Members of the public upload photos and videos of locations and venues that they visit in and around the metropolitan area to this free and informative resource.
  • This GPS-mapped resource spans locations across the state, country and world.
  • It is an easy way to share these wonderful metropolitan area walk locations with visitors to our state (or your friends).
  • It has never been easier to be a personal travel guide.

Using the Google Maps app, I have created a dedicated O.F.F.W.A. list of the walks that we visit through the calendar year. This list is publicly accessible to anyone around the world with an internet connection if you have the hyperlink that I provide below (see “4. Walk & P.O.I).
Where P.O.I. refer to ‘point of interest’.

You can view this dedicated list either from a PC or smart device (even while your out resting on a walk provided you have mobile data).

  1. To view from a PC, simply click the green button below.
  2. To view from a smart device, I recommend downloading the Google Maps app (if needed) to your smartphone (or iPad/tablet). Use your iPhone to access this page of the website, then simply click the green button below.
Note: Hyperlinks to the Google Maps apps are provided at the bottom of this menu.

I added a few generic walking photos to this public resource, and there they join the growing number of photos and videos being shared by others, including the general public and tourists.

My Google Maps photos (including the ones on our official websites) promote our O.F.F.W.A. club to others.

In addition to the features on the walk features, I have also created separate waypoint collections that focus on specific locations for the following:
1. parking (blue button).
2. assembly (yellow button).
3. toilet (orange button).
5. cafรฉ (purple button).

The assembly map allows me to create a static map for new club members so they may gain an immediate indication of the various locations that we visit; from the birdeye perspective.

๐ŸŒถ๏ธ Hot take:
View this saved ‘publicly shared’ list โ€“ using your smartphone โ€“ when you arrive at a walk location. Ensure that you have your location services enabled for Google Maps.
๐Ÿ’ก Tip:
As you view this list, ensure that you have enabled the “distance” and “O.F.F.W.A. walk” filters (by ticking them). I have circled them in red (see image).

Selecting the ‘distance’ criteria ensures that the closest walk to your present location appears at the top of this interactively smart ‘live list’.
