Normal weekly walks (Mar-Nov)
- We schedule weekly walks โ every Tuesday (March to November).
- Each week we visit a new area, alternating between picturesque locations both North of the River (N.o.R.) and South of the River (S.o.R.).
- New members, please arrive early for introductions and registration.
- New members may participate in a FREE ‘try-out’ day on any Tuesday walk.
- Existing members assemble by 9:45 a.m. for the walk briefing at 10:00 a.m.
- Walking begins by 10:30 a.m., at the latest.
- Afterwards โ anywhere from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon โ many members stay behind and enjoy a ‘spot of lunch’ and a friendly chat in a sheltered location.
- For the ‘post-walk’ chat โ if you wish to participate โ we suggest bringing a few additional items, including 1. a folding chair; 2. your beverage of choice (hot or cold), and 3. a packed lunch if you’re hungry.
Note: These items can be left in your car or left in the care of patrons that may be remaining in the assembly area for the duration of the walk. Please take anything valuable with you. - Choose the distance and pace at which you can comfortably walk.
- Trained first aiders accompany members to offer assistance where needed.
- Please bring the usual equipment for walking in the Australian weather โ hat, sunscreen, walking stick, walking aids, etc.
- Walking too is voluntary; spectators are always welcome.
Some simply walk from the car park area to the seating location; some do a short stretch then rest; some undertake a gentle walk; and the more keen ‘power through’ the planned route, eager to grab an early lunch ๐ upon their return. - The walk is as long (or as short) as you want to make it ‘on the day’.
Our walking coordinator has various route options that are suited to all types of fitness. The maximum distance is up to about 8 kilometres return, but 1 km, 2 km or anything in between suits most people. - In February each new year a new daytime walking timetable for O.F.F.W.A. club members is devised and published for the walk year ahead.
- The first walk of the new season commences in March.
- Our Annual General Meeting is conducted in November, held on the last scheduled daytime walk.
